Just 10 miles southeast of Charlotte, Matthews offers a quaint downtown and streets that offer small town charm. From it’s beginning in the 1800´s as a village in a farming community, Matthews has steadily grown as a town distinctly separate and unique from Charlotte. Some of the schools serving the Matthews area include: Matthews Elementary, Elizabeth Lane Elementary, Crown Point Elementary, Crestdale Middle School, South Charlotte Middle School, Providence High School and East Mecklenburg High School. There are also a variety of private schools available in the area including Covenant Day School and Charlotte Christian School. Central Piedmont Community College Levine Campus offers one hundred degree and certification programs including corporate training. Wingate University Metro College offers Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Liberal Studies degrees in six majors.
